We meet for 2-3 hours on Thursday nights. It's designed so that members can attend sporadiacally. Are you an intelligent, curious woman between the ages of 30 and 60 (or thereabout) who would love to read and discuss books that educate you in some way? Do you who wonder how the brain works, how the environment and food is affecting your health, what a new scientific discovery overseas could mean for you in terms of your beliefs and ethics, or what it come mean to you when we lose another species to extinction? Do you like to read about historical events that have shaped how we think about me …

A group for pagan or pagan-friendly folks who appreciate writing in all of its forms. The writing does not have to be pagan-themed. Here, writers can share their work to a pagan-minded audience for a more specific reaction to their writing. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and essays are welcome. I am currently feeling out dates that would work for our group. Please email me and let me know what dates work out the best for you.
We are people who like to know more today than we did the day before. We like to challenge our assumptions, question our beliefs and come away with that cherished little pearl of insight that keeps alive our sense of awe at life. And we like to do all of this while laughing together over a good cup of coffee or tea, and sometimes the occasional beer. We are not formal, and come from all walks of life. And we think that everyone has something to learn and something to teach. So swing by the …
This group is designed for independent thinkers with a focus on reading books that challenge the standard narrative of culture, i.e. concepts that are generally accepted as true by the greater populous, but may not be entirely accurate. We focus on non-fiction, scholarly books that take a critical approach to cultural and technological issues. Every third book, we will switch to fiction that stimulates thinking outside the box. While this group is designated non-theist and affiliated with the …

A few friends and I have been reading and meeting up at coffee shops and brunch spots around northern Virginia for a few months and we would like a few more people who like to read a variety of books (fiction, non-fiction, travel books, chic lit, not so much sci-fi though) while exploring fun coffee shops and brunch spots (p …

The purpose of this group is to give those who love to read, but who may have a different schedule than the regular 9 to 5, a book club of their own. I (the organizer) have an unusual schedule and cannot be part of a book club that meets in the evenings, though I love to read and am very passionate about books. So I decided to start a book club of my own. We will meet once a month during a week day. Once I get enough interested people, perhaps we can decide on the day that would work best for ev …

Anthony Burgess was motivated to finish multiple novels when he was told (mistakenly) that he was going to die of brain cancer. In lieu of a mis-diagnosis of terminal illness, this is a group for those in the greater Richmond area who want to take their writing to the next level. The group is open to writers of all genres and all ages, but only to writers who are serious about a commitment to being a productive writer. I hope to find others like me who need a supportive place to improve their wr …

We like to read obviously. I started this group because there was a book club group that seems to have fizzled out a bit but there were people who were still interested. I've never been in a book club before but I figure a bunch of strangers could be in the same room and talk about a book without any problems, am I right? I like the idea of meeting in a public place so folks can get something to eat or have a few drinks. Anyone is welcome to join provided they like to read. If nothing else it's …

So...if you sometimes schlep to Politics and Prose, hop a train to the Harlem Book Fair (or want to), search for interesting used book stores online (I can't be the only one) or wait every year for the N …
