26 Meetup Groups match “Non-Fiction” near San Carlos, CA
Join us for discussions of non-fiction titles! Preference is for shorter books 350 pages or less, but all are welcome suggestions.
We read and discuss books that are rooted in or inspired by history in all its shapes and colors. Fiction and non-fiction, both scholarly and popular. Stories that re-create the past. Journalists who tell us "what happened". Interpreters who openly argue a point of view or seek to illuminate the present through the past. There are also many opportunities to leave our armchairs for fun history-focused field trips to museums, walking tours, films, theater, author lectures, etc. For our book discus …

I adore middle-schoolers: kids between the ages of 9 and 12. After years of mentoring middle and high teachers and writing non-fiction, I'm currently working on a contemporary fantasy series for middle-grade girls. What a challenge! The one thing I know for sure is that you cannot hand this special group of readers watered down young adult fiction or 'watered up' chapter books. Would you like to help me--and yourselves--craft the best middle school fiction we can?
All are welcome! Join us for stimulating book discussion on the second Thursday of the month. We meet from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm in the Fireside Room at the Lucie Stern Center. The Writers Cafe is off to a great start. We're been meeting for two and a half months now. The group is currently full, however if you are interested, join up and send me an email. I'll contact you and give you an email address where you can send a writing sample -- either a chapter of your novel or a short story. If what you're doing is in sync with the group I'll put you on the waiting list and let you know where things are at with the group. The current group is excellent. All of the writer …
There are several Meetup book clubs in the East Bay, but many of them are specialized (e.g., women-only, we only read such-and-such books, etc.), or their meetings fill to capacity so fast that I never get a chance to rsvp - so I decided to start this one. I previously participated in a fantastic book club in Chicago, which gave me the opportunity to read some great books that I probably wouldn't have found on my own. I hope to continue that trend here! This is a mixed-gender book club for anyon …

I've been devouring some really interesting books recently and would love to talk with people about them. Hoping to create a group of people that meets regularly, engages in critical thought and opens up our exposure so that we get people from different viewpoints, or maybe even read contrasting authors at the same time.

This group is, in fact, closed at the moment. Book discussions are best with 10-15 people, so we need to cap the number of members in the group. When space becomes available, the website will invite new members to apply. WHO WE ARE We are lesbian/bisexual women in our late 30s to early 50s who love to read, discuss books, cook/enjoy good food, and socialize. We are friendly, intelligent, and respectful of different points of view. Since this is the kind of group that requires advanced plannin …

Are you a consultant, speaker, or coach who wants to move to your next level? Every mass-level expert has a book. Do you want to be one of them? Or perhaps you have just always wanted to write a book. I've worked with top speakers and experts like Alex Mandossian, Jeff Slayter, Milana Leshinsky, and others. We are a group of women (and the occasional man) who since Fall 2009 have met on the second Tuesday (usually) of every month for dinner and discussion of our latest read. The restaurant is chosen from favorite spots in San Carlos or nearby Belmont and Redwood City; the dinner reservation is set for 6:30pm. We choose our books by democratic process and rotate through literary fiction, popular fiction and even the occasional non-fiction pick. We try to pick books that have been released in paperba …

There's always room for one more book enthusiast in the Fremont Ladies' Book Club! We are a group of ladies who love to read and love socializing with others who share our passion for books. If this sounds like you, we'd love to have you join us. Everyone gets to contribute to the book selection process. This allows us to read a wide variety of books that we may not have otherwise picked up in the book store. Most of our books have been fiction, but we've also read non-fiction, a children's c …

Join us for discussions on an eclectic mix of fiction and non-fiction books. We meet once a month - usually the evening of the third Thursday - at a member's home mid-Peninsula. The book for each month is chosen by a mixture of voting and consensus. Our discussions include both the book itself and the issues it raises. They are lively, informal, and respectful of everyone's view. Here are some books that we recently read: - "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley - "The Haunting of Hill House" by Sh …

This group is meant to bring together dedicated and serious writers who value voice, advocacy, experience and artistic written expression. The focus of this group is the feminine experience. That doesn't mean the female experience. It can be the experience or exploration of anything deemed feminine, supposedly feminine, not feminine, etc. Writing can focus on struggling with ideas or concepts of femininity. We will write, share our work, participate in readings and create a community of writers …

Let's be honest: writing is hard, and sometimes scary. Whether you're tackling a novel, a script, a memoir, or a short story, encouragement and positive feedback from other writers not only help you improve your work, but give you an incentive to keep going. You'll also learn a great deal from reading the work of other writers. I've been a writer for forty years, and have worked professionally as a journalist (the Contra Costa Times, and freelance for dozens of other publications), television co …

CLINE was established to encourage and facilitate the scientific exploration of the intersection of computation, language, information, complexity, and intelligence as they are influenced by, and influence, the process of evolution. Of particular interest to this group is the development of self-evolving systems. The assumption is that apex systems evolve toward greater and greater complexity-handling capacity. Some call this "artificial intelligence," but we have trouble with the term as it: 1 …
