Meetups are facilitated by the organizer (or an occasional guest) to provide structure and direction to the discussion. All members are encouraged to provide their opinions, and all opinions are valued and respected. At the end of the meeting members will vote on a list of …

This is a book club for history enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. We read and then discuss different books that are rooted in or inspired by history in all its shapes and colors. Fiction and non-fiction, both scholarly and popular. Stories that re-create the past. Journalists who tell us "what happened". Interpreters who openly argue a point of view or seek to illuminate the present through the past. We meet every 4 weeks or so in the Mission and Bernal Heights neighborhoods of San Franci …
Ever notice those numbers on the side of the books in libraries? Ever wonder what they meant? Sure, I'd heard of the Dewey Decimal System, but I never quite understood it. So I decided to read my way through the Dewey Decimals, and I invite you to join me! Each month we'll focus on one section, from the 100's to the 900's, and discuss one featured title. This club is sponsored by the San Rafael Public Library.
Looking to meet other fans of non-fiction. In addition, looking for someone to be an assistant organizer and very involved in the group.
Meetup details are available only to members.
(WE HAVE A WAITING LIST. See below for details). SFDiscourse is a book club that's been meeting monthly since 2001. Our aim is to keep our wits sharp by reading challenging non-fiction books and having an unstructured discussion about them. We read contemporary books on topics such as history, science, politics, and social issues. We're not very serious but the books usually are. We also recognize that since we often read books about controversial subjects, people may really disagree with e …

So what's the worst part of most book groups? Being forced to read a book you simply don't want to read. And what's the best part: getting all those great book recommendations! In this meet up, we're going to dispense with the book *reading* and go straight to the recommending ... and we'll do it with a game I call the "Book Auction". Each participant brings 2 of their favorite books (1 fiction, 1 non-fiction) -- these can be books off your shelf, or new purchases from a store. At the door, ever …

This meetup is an opportunity for me to merge my two primary practices of writing and mindfulness, and open up these teachings to a wider …

Like the South Bay chapter.... "This meetup is here to help provide a social location for those looking for something a little less mainstream. We're a non-judgmental group who loves geeking out just as much as YOU DO!" The South Bay group has had such a great response, we thought there might be enough geeks in the peninsula area to make a sister group. Let's share geeky ideas, go geeky places, and do geeky things together! All manner of geeks are welcome: singles, couples--even people w …
